Abstract
The 1986 Master Plan was the result of a planning effort approved at the Spring 1986 meeting of the Berea College Board of Trustees. The intended outputs of the planning efforts and new master plan for Berea College were to: (1) plan for the use of outlying college property; (2) describe a development plan for the Boone Tavern area; and (3) outline the desired image recommended for Berea College.

Abstract
The 1992 Berea College Master Plan provided a framework for long-term planning and promoted effective coordination of campus development decisions by illustrating how campus systems - development patterns, open space and pedestrian circulation, and vehicular circulation and parking - related to one another. Abstract
Starting in 1899, a fire brigade made up of students and known as the "Bucket Brigade," was established on campus and responded to calls both on and off campus. Formally established in 1905 by the College, the Fire Department served the campus and the city and was staffed by students. In 1966, the City of Berea took over responsibilities for operating the fire department ending what many affectionally referred to as the "College Fire Department."
